Planning ahead for Ardacon 2018! Pt. 1

As the end of the year draws near, my hobby senses are tingling and new ideas are constantly developing and changing as I ponder about how I could do what I want to do and why I would do it. Of course change is never wrong, and deciding on whether to do one thing instead of the other and even healthy for most people. So it is time to do something and make a decision that’s going to be part of a focus the coming half year, especially for the summer event called Ardacon, a three day Middle-Earth centred hobby and gaming event in Manchester, UK.

So in order to get a good idea for possibly my main army, I decided to channel my thoughts through a series of blog posts! So let’s say I could ask myself 5 questions, what would they be?

  1. What are your favourite ideas so far?
  2. Are you drawn towards certain miniatures?
  3. Elite or horde?
  4. And what about money?
  5. How long do you what be working on this army?

Pretty good questions if I might say so myself. So let’s start with the first one: What are your favourite ideas so far?

My favourite ideas so far are:

  • Khamûl’s Castellans of Dol Guldur, with Khamûl as the general of a force that has been tasked to defend Dol Guldur.
  • The Eastern Shadow, once again a force lead by Khamûl but this time he’s leading an Easterling with lots of pikes!

    Khamûl
  • The Guardians of the Caras Galadhon, this is a Galadhrim force consisting of mostly Guards of the Galadhrim Court and as a possible General: Galadriel, Lady of Light.
  • Long live the King, an army built around the idea of the rebuilding of Erebor after The Battle of the Five armies, with a converted Dain Ironfoot with a crown as the centrepiece.
  • And last but not least: The Elves of Doriath. An elven force with a lot of conversions to represent my idea of the First Age Sindar Elves that lived in Doriath en Menegroth and were led by Thingol.

Second Question: Are you drawn towards certain miniatures?

I certainly am drawn towards certain miniatures, a lot of them actually! But I won’t tell which ones today, I’ll save that for the second post in my Planning Ahead for Ardacon 2018! week.

Tomorrow I’ll discuss questions 2 and 3 and I’ll give some more information about what I think Ardacon is all about.

See ya!
