Nazgûl of Dol Guldur: An Unholy Resurrection

I recently received the remainder of the 9 Nazgûl of Dol Guldur and it took me a while to sit down and build them in one go, but I did! And they look so so so good. Unpainted and painted. The detail is of high quality (it’s Forgeworld quality so that’s a certain given of course) and putting them together isn’t to hard either.

Of course the first thing you do is wash them in lukewarm water with a bit of soap, you do this wash of the releasing agent that is used when these models are cast in their moulds. This agent makes it difficult to glue your models together so always wash the agent of. After that I cleaned up mould lines (there weren’t many) and I made sure the bend in some of the weapons disappeared.

And after that it was building time! I was lucky enough to find the same bases I used for the NoDG The Witch King; NoDG The Dark Headsman and NoDG The Slayer of Man (1). And with them put on their bases it was time for some pictures for the blog and then a good undercoat!

Later in this post I will show an army list I cooked up with a few of these Nazgûl. And below on this picture you can see the two Abyssal Knights being build and ready for battle!

Armylist Idea: A Very Humble Alliance

So for 750 points (by chance the point limit of a tournament I am going to, though this is in no way the force that I will be taking there) I am planning to run the following, not so theme/lore-friendly force:

These four Nazgûl of Dol Guldur:

Warband 1: One must have Control

NoDG: The Witch King of Angmar/Khamûl the Easterling.

One of the Nazgûl of Dol Guldur I try to keep in my lists is the Witch King of Angmar for his influence and store of might. Although if I need to be more combat orientated I’d take Khamûl the Easterling.

Warband 2: A moving Shadow

NoDG: The Lingering Shadow.

Warband 3: Nightmares from the Dark

NoDG: The Dark Headsman/Slayer of Men/Abyssal Knight.

Warband 4: A Dream of Evil

NoDG: The Forsaken/Slayer of Men/Abyssal Knight.

For warbands 3 and 4 it really depends on what scenarios will be played, especially during tournaments. I’d choose the Abyssal Knights over the Slayers of Men if the scenarios were more based on killing specific tasks or carrying objects from one point to another.

Warband 5: A Draining Void

The Dwimmerlaik on horse.

A very important choice for me, always, as this miniature has a very annoying special rule that makes, on the roll of a 4, 5 or 6, enemy models their lives miserable.

Warband 6: Minions of the Witch King

Shade.

I really like having a Shade in my evil forces, extremely useful model when used with lots of infantry.

Warband 7: A King of Moria

Dûrburz, the Goblin King of Moria

11 Moria Goblins: 5 with shields; 6 with spears

Warband 8: Goblin Magics brings the Fury

Moria Goblin Shaman

12 Moria Goblins: 6 with shields; 6 with spears

The last two warbands are their to fill, to be the battleline of the force. Because, if there is an area control based scenario, I can focus some of these models on certain objectives whilst the Nazgûl go ahead and clean up before or after control has been taken of the objectives.

So, a very interesting idea, it has a lot of elements and a lot of heroes, but also a lot of goblins that could prove very useful. As well as some great supporting heroes and casters. I think I have to try this out and see how it goes, maybe I will be using this at tournaments, or versions of it, in the future!

Next post I will show more of the Nazgûl of Dol Guldur as I will probably have built all of them and I will have been painting them for a while too. Can’t wait to show you guys more of my ideas for lists as well!

what do you think about this list? What do you want me to talk about in further Middle-earth related posts? Shall I do a Tale of a Lone Warlord* styled collect and paint (and play) themed thing to show my progress and start a new army (possibly based around one – or two) of the Nazgûl of Dol Guldur)? Do you have any ideas for the blog or anything cool to show? Let me know!

See ya!
